Wakatobi Remote island surrounded by Flores and Banda Sea in Southeast Sulawesi, well known for its coral reefs.

Ikat Weaving There is a traditional weaving with a technique and pattern unique of its kind, called Tenun Boke. It is a double ikat weaving that cannot be found in neighboring cultures. A hidden gem of Nusantara Traditional Textile. 

Community Consisted of women of various ages and skills, the weaving community is big but scattered -- unlike the centralized weaving villages in Java.

Community : Weaving Village

There has been an existing weaving village in Kaledupa, nonetheless it is not a centralized production system because the weavers mainly working at their own home.

Remote Islands

Wakatobi regency located on a 

remote area with limited access to signals, electricity, and logistic system.

Women Livelihood

Majority of the people of Wakatobi are fishermen, but many household are relying on income from weaving production when the weather forbid them to go to the sea.

Existing Market: Supported by Tourism

The weaver have been heavily depending on tourism as their marketing channel. This Pandemic really hits hard, but we believe it is also a momentum to start reaching bigger market.
